Betway Goes Live in Ontario in the Next Few Days – Casino Reports

The list of online operators in Ontario will soon grow bigger as Betway is preparing for an imminent launch. The company received its license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario in April this year, but it did not have the needed documentation to commence work. Now, everything is in order for an August 1, 2022 launch.

Ontario’s market is the first of its kind in Canada, as the province is the first Canadian jurisdiction to introduce an online gaming model for private operators. After years of preparation and several delays, the market launched on April 4, 2022, and its introduction essentially eliminated the grey market operations in the province.

Save the Date

After several months of waiting Betway has finally acquired its operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, which is a subsidiary of the AGCO, and both oversee the market. The company previously operated in the grey market in the province, and players who already have accounts are advised to migrate their accounts after they log in for the first time on August 1, 2022.

Now, that the gaming firm has been licensed to operate in the province of Ontario, Betway will still be able to function in other provinces but still as a grey-market brand. The company will continue to be accessible to other provinces at betway.com and offer its products under its Malta Gaming Authority license.

And in Ontario, the operator will now launch with a broad range of sports betting, casino, eSports, and live casino verticals. The platform is the property of Super Group which is the largest operator in Canada and it operates in the offshore iGaming sector via Betway and Spin. According to H2 Gambling Capital, the company managed to generate 28% of the total market share in 2021.

Immense Online Variety

With the new online gaming market, Ontarian gambling fans have plenty of options when it comes to wagering as numerous big-name operators have joined the province. DraftKings is one of those, and recently the sportsbook launched its 2024 Presidential Election wagering. The operators also released their odds for the campaign as former President Donald Trump leads the charts.

Despite launching just recently DraftKings was one of the few gaming brands which were sanctioned by the AGCO for its promotional materials. The company suffered a monetary fine of CA$100,000 for violating the province’s Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming with its promoted boosted odds for hockey matches during the NHL playoffs.

After the fine, the company’s Senior Director of Corporate Affairs, James Chisholm said in a statement that the gaming leader is committed to playing by the rules in every jurisdiction it operates. He also stated that after the sanction from the regulator, the company reacted immediately and pulled the rules-breaching ads out of circulation.
